Establish Credit History with a Co-signer

No Credit History
Building Credit with Co-signers

As a rule, no credit is associated with something negative. It's a popular belief that if you're a beginner, you need to struggle for access to plastics. Credit denial is the dark painful thought that haunts potential applicants. The question that bothers most persons with no FICO score is, how to build credit history from scratch and where to find those wonder-working score-building tools?

Believe it or not, but there are many ways of building a FICO score, but the less stressful and rather effective one is to have a co-signer, a parent or a close friend with a high score, who can assist you in getting a credit card.

Sad to say but there are lots of people going through this stage in their financial lives and this story is so much of our time. On the other hand, the absence of credit history means that you can start your credit profile from scratch, you don't need to correct the mistakes of the past, you've got good chances to prove lenders that you're a trustworthy customer.

The age of a potential first-time applicant does matter. Youth folks have a good chance to establish credit, especially when it comes to high school or college students. Not the same thing with adults. If you are in mid thirties and still haven't established a good credit score, lenders won't be that happy to see you as a customer.

However, if you have a good friend or a relative with exceptional credit, you may take advantage of his/her score rating as well. In what way?

The thing is, it's much easier to qualify for a plastic when you've got someone to assist you. To be more exact, someone with a high FICO score. When signing the forms, both borrowers assume equal liability for it. This way, if the cardholder cannot pay off the balance, a co-signer is legally responsible for it.

If you have no credit or a damaged one and want to fix it, you may consider this option, by all means if you're fortunate to have a person who's ready to assist you. Generally, co-signers are parents of young adults who want to help their kids establish credit while in college. And truly speaking, it's an effective method of building a good FICO score.

The wonderful thing about co-signing is that you can qualify for plastics with better rates you might not otherwise obtain. Plus, this credit activity will show up in your credit report, and when using this plastic responsibly, you've got all the chances to boost your FICO score.

It's very essential to be a responsible user when applying for a card with a co-signer. Although a good payer assists you in application, it doesn't mean that you don't have to fulfill your financial obligations. If you default on your payments, not only this will hurt your score rating, but it also affects the score of the person who agreed to co-sign for your credit application.
